Functions of the laboratory
The Biotechnology Laboratory of the Department of Biological Plant Protection carries out a
number of key functions and areas of activity:
- Participates in conducting research and development (R&D) in relevant scientific fields
- Develops and improves methodologies and programs, as well as regulatory and technological documentation for conducting research and development (R&D) in relevant scientific fields
- Provides methodological and consultative support in conducting research and development (R&D) in relevant scientific fields, as well as in the experimental testing of new samples of biological products, equipment, instruments, devices, materials, and technological processes
- Ensures high efficiency of activities carried out in relevant scientific fields and exercises control over the timely and high-quality execution of research activities in accordance with approved tasks and programs
- Carries out the collection, storage, and systematization of information on completed and ongoing research and development (R&D) activities in relevant scientific fields, in compliance with the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the protection of intellectual property rights and the safeguarding of state and/or commercial secrets
- Provides advanced training for laboratory staff, as well as training and retraining of personnel in relevant scientific fields
Main areas of activity of the Biotechnology Laboratory:
Search for microorganisms
Identification and selection of local entomopathogenic microorganisms for the subsequent development of new biopreparations effective against pests of agricultural crops and forest plantations under the conditions of Kazakhstan.
Collection support
Expansion and maintenance of an active collection of entomopathogenic microorganisms of indigenous strains, including for the purpose of biodiversity conservation.
Development of biopreparations
Development of new domestic highly effective biological products and the elaboration of technologies for their application against pests of agricultural and forestry sectors.
Research
Study of key physiological aspects of insect pests associated with the occurrence and progression of pathogenesis.
