Phytopathology Laboratory

The main functions of the laboratory:

The laboratory of phytopathology is working on the diagnosis of seed and planting material. This work makes it possible to identify hidden bacterial and fungal infections. And the procedure for improving the seed material is one of the methods of protection at the early stages of plant development, not only from seed and soil infection, but also against pests. Seed research and processing services are carried out using patented technologies. After the analysis, you receive a research protocol, scientists carry out the selection of protectants and, if necessary, work on the etching and improvement of seeds.

Areas of activity of the laboratory:

  • Mycological and bacteriological examinations for the identification of plant pathogens (phytoexpertise)
  • Conducting laboratory studies of quarantined material samples to determine their quarantine phytosanitary status (e.g., Erwinia amylovora)
  • Improvement of seed material through the application of protective and stimulating compounds
  • Determination of bactericidal properties of fungicides and biological products used in plant protection against agricultural crop diseases
  • Organization and conduct of advanced training courses for specialists in plant protection and quarantine, focusing on pathogen identification and diagnostics
  • Organization and conduct of individual internships in the phytosanitary field
  • Preservation and replenishment of the laboratory collection of quarantine and non-quarantine organisms
  • Conducting interlaboratory comparative tests

Services

  • Diagnosis of diseases of agricultural crops using classical phytopathological methods, with the provision of practical recommendations for control measures
  • Phytoexamination of seeds of various agricultural crops to determine sowing quality, including germination energy and germination rate
  • Determination of the species composition of pathogenic and saprophytic microflora in seeds based on phytopathological analyses, with the application of molecular genetic methods when necessary
